Buy lawfully. Every time.
Canadian Firearms Exchange is a member-to-member platform for licensed Canadian firearm owners. Buyers carry the same responsibility as sellers to follow the Firearms Act and the Canadian Firearms Program (CFP) transfer process. The rules below are not optional — failure to follow them can end your membership and may carry criminal consequences.
Verify your licence before you bid
You must hold a valid PAL or RPAL covering the class of firearm you intend to acquire. Your licence must be current at the moment of transfer — not just at the time of purchase. Restricted firearms additionally require an RPAL and an Authorization to Transport where applicable.
Confirm the seller
Only deal with identity-verified members. Review the seller's feedback, listing history and dealer status (if any). Never send payment or personal documents off-platform before the seller is confirmed.
Follow the CFP transfer process
For non-restricted firearms, the seller must verify your PAL with the Canadian Firearms Program (1-800-731-4000 or CFP Online) before the firearm changes hands. For restricted firearms, the transfer must be approved by the CFP and registered to you before you take possession. Do not accept a firearm until the transfer is complete.
Shipping and delivery
Firearms ship via Canada Post's firearm-approved service with signature on delivery. Inspect the package at pickup and the firearm before signing off on the deal. Ammunition ships ground only; some northern routes have additional handling.
Keep records
Keep a record of the transfer reference number, seller name, firearm make/model/serial, date, and price. Buyers of restricted firearms should retain the CFP registration confirmation. These records protect you in the event of a later inquiry.
Prohibited items are off-limits
Do not buy, attempt to buy, or arrange off-platform purchase of prohibited firearms, devices, magazines, or items on the May 2020 Order in Council list. If a listing looks non-compliant, do not engage — report it.
Use the platform messaging
Keep all negotiation and transfer coordination inside platform messaging. This creates a record we can refer to if a dispute arises and protects both parties from impersonation or off-platform scams.
Report concerns
Use the report button on any listing or profile that appears non-compliant, fraudulent, or unsafe. For urgent concerns email admin@canadianfirearmsexchange.ca. We review reports promptly and cooperate with law enforcement when required.
